    Who is Daniel Negreanu?

Daniel Negreanu is nothing short of a poker legend. His ability to read players, spot the best action and mentor up-and-coming talent have secured his place in poker's pantheon, Negreanu joins Team PokerStars as its newest ambassador of the sport beloved by 50 million people worldwide.

The Toronto native moved to Las Vegas aged 23 to become a professional poker player. At the 1997 World Poker Finals at Foxwoods, Negreanu took down back-to-back titles earning himself the Best Player Award.

Since then he has added three World Series of Poker bracelets to his trophy haul, winning his first in 1998 (in the first WSOP event he had ever entered) at the age of 23, making him the youngest bracelet winner ever at that time. Negreanu has also been a dominant figure on the World Poker Tour, winning two titles and also boasting more top three finishes than any other player.

A perennially popular player, Negreanu was named the World Series of Poker "Player of the Year" in 2004 and "Favorite Poker Player" by Card Player Magazine in February 2006.

Negreanu has written over 100 articles for Card Player magazine, has a syndicated newspaper column in over 50 cities and also has a best selling book on the market entitled, "Hold'em Wisdom for All Players." For his second book, Daniel has assembled a team of 'Superstar Contributors' to write a book called, "Daniel Negreanu's Power Hold'em Strategy." He regularly plays against these contributors in televised tournaments and high stakes games including Late Night Poker, High Stakes Poker, the Poker Superstars Invitational Tournament and Ultimate Poker Challenge (as a commentator and stand-in host).

Negreanu can be found playing at PokerStars under the name 'KidPoker'.

    Who is dna4ever?

My name is Alan Rush and I am simply a big fan of Daniel Negreanu and am active pretty much daily at his Fullcontactpoker.com forum. I am one of the moderators on the Fullcontactpoker forums and run the Negreanu Open.

I play poker purely recreationally mainly on Poker Stars and around town in the Nashville, TN area. My Pokerstars username is dna4ever.

Since I am a part time web designer and typically play in all the Negreanu Open events I somehow evolved into the point person for these tournaments. We restarted them back up in May 2005 and I have been keeping a leaderboard ever since. These tournaments were always simply forum ran with no official approval or acknowledgement by Daniel Negreanu or Fullcontactpoker.com, but now Daniel and his business team have stepped up and offered a great set of prizes for these tournaments.

I'm a happily married guy with 2 awesome children; a 9 year old son and 15 year old step daughter. My wife's name starts with a "D" and my name starts with an "A" which is how dna4ever was cornily created.

For all you myspace geeks out there like myself you can visit my page at http://www.myspace.com/dnapoker

    What is a HORSE tournament?

HORSE is actually an acronym describing a combination of poker games:

    Hold'em
    Omaha high-low
    Razz (Seven card stud low)
    Stud (Seven card stud high)
    Eight-or-better (Seven card stud high-low)

HORSE is played as one "round" of each of its component games. It begins with limit hold'em, then limit Omaha high-low, razz (seven card stud low), seven card stud, and finally seven card stud high-low. When the seven-card stud high-low round is complete, the game goes back to limit hold'em, and so on. You can tell which game is being dealt by looking at the top border of the table window.

When switching from Omaha high-low to Razz, the button is frozen. That way, when the game switches back to hold'em (after seven card stud high-low), nobody skips blinds or pays extra blinds.

How do I sign up or register for the leaderboard and tournaments?

You do not need to register anywhere for the leaderboard. If you play in the tournament your stats will automatically be registered here on the leaderboard page. Your statistics are kept by your Poker Stars screenname.

To register for the tourney itself follow these directions:

Log onto Pokerstars and sign in. When you log onto the site you will want to click on the 'Tourney' tab then the "Private" subtab. You can sort by date or by name. All the games will be labled either "Negreanu Open -- $11 H.O.R.S.E. or "Negreanu Open -- $11 NL Hold'em".

Once you find the tournament double click on it and you will arrive at the tournament registration screen. Keep in mind you can not register for any of these tournaments until 24 hours before it is scheduled to start. Once its within the 24 hour window you will see a "Register" button appear. You will be asked for a password. The password for all these tournaments is "fcpfcp". Click the button and confirm you want to register. That's it!

How long do these tournaments usually last?

Unfortunately with Multi-Table Tournaments there is no way to tell exactly how long these tournaments will last since it is all relative to the number of entrants and the players. The structure is nice and slow to allow for plenty of play so you can expect the tournaments with 100+ people to last up to 4 hours or longer.

What is the blind structure and starting chip information?

These are deepstack tournaments which means you start with 3000 chips instead of the normal 1500 chips. This allows for alot more play!

Here is the structure for the HORSE tournament:

Here is the structure for the NLHE tournament:

Yes, Daniel will occassionally be playing in these weekly events, but obviously due to his busy schedule he will not be playing weekly. Check the Fullcontactpoker Forums to see if Daniel is playing in that weeks tourney.

Does Daniel Negreanu support or endorse these tournaments?

The Negreanu Open's have always been forum ran which means there is not an official endorsement of any kind, but Daniel and his business team have acknowledged these tournaments and have provided some amazing prize incentives to keep these going! How do I earn Tournament Leaderboard (TLB) Points?

You automatically earn leaderboard points everytime you play in a weekly tournament! Unlike most TLB systems where you only earn points for finishing in the top 15% you can earn points here even if you finish dead last! You do not need to register for the leaderboard, your stats will automatically be updated after every tournament you play.

    Back to FAQs

How are the TLB Points calculated?

I use the standard TLB formula when calculating the leaderboard results. The points earned are directly relative to the number of entrants and how you place in that field. Obviously finishing 1st in a 100 person tournament should (and does) give you more points then finishing first in a 70 person tournament.

Here is the actual formula used:

    Points = 10 * [sqrt(n)/sqrt(k)] * [1+log(b+0.25)]

    Where:

n is the number of entrants k is the place of finish (k=1 for the first-place finisher, and so on) b is the buy-in amount in dollars (excluding administrative fee) which is $10 in all of these tournaments

What if I found an error with my TLB statistics?

If for any reason you believe you have found an error with your leaderboard stats please contact dna4ever immediately so the situation can be verified and updated if necessary. You can visit the Contact Page to see the methods to reach me

When do the leaderboard points reset?

The leaderboard points reset every quarter. The first tournament of each leaderboard period in 2009 is on January 7th, April 1st July 1st, and September 30th
